内容提要：

At first sight, Chinese and Western Medicine seem to be totally different - and actually, they are totally different. But if we look into the past down into antiquity, Chinese and Western Medicine seem to have been rather similar. Famous scholars - eg Joseph Needham or Paul U. Unschuld - have stressed these similarities.

· Thus the questions emerge:

·Were there actually similarities between the ancient medicine of China and Europe?

·Or is this just a historiographic construct of some authors (esp. J. Needham)?

·What do we have to be aware of looking at superficial similarities?

·What were the scientific, what were the historical similarities and differences? On similar living structures, on similar thought structures?

·Is there any evidence of possible encounters between eastern and western medicine in early times? If so, on what ways?

·How can we finally go on with the deep differences of todays Chinese and Western Medicine?
